3.5" below pad is the best starting point. I have mine at 3.75, but know others do well with 3.25. He will have to experiment....

Sorry to jump in.... but can someone tell me or link me to how to exactly measure this (maybe with a diagram) I have a 193 with a 200 YAM (25M prop) and I have not done a thing to it!

Put trailer on level ground. Using trailer jack and a carpenter's level, get trailer level. Trim motor down and put carpenter level on the cavitation plate...and make sure it is level. Measure from ground to center of pad of boat...this is the lowest part of the hull...forward of drain plug area. Then measure from ground to center of lower unit nose-cone (prop-shaft). The difference between the 2 measurements is the prop-to-pad height.
