    Question about Chine Walking

I have not drove or rode in a Champion in a long time. Do they havev a Chine Walking problem like the Tritons do? Read a lot of discussion on Chine Walking on the Triton board and am not sure if I want to purchase a boat that I will have to learn how to drive all over again.

Re: Question about Chine Walking (Combat31E)

No...you will not experience the chine walk in a champ like you will a Triton. The V-Wing hull minimizes the tendencies of the chine walk. Any chine walk you do experience should be easily control-able. The Triton's have a tendency to be very "ticklish" and can get pretty hairy. Any boat running 66-70mph will have a tendency to walk a little some worse than others...but it is inherent in the Triton hulls..not knocking just a fact. The V in the V-wing hull carries through out the pad and therefore you are not running on a true flat surface....this along with a bunch of other technical mumbo jumbo is why the champ is able to "pull itself in". Go see your local dealer and take a ride...you will not be disappointed!!!

    What Ben said!!

Although any boat running up on pad (especially if set up wrong) has the potential for walking, Champion is one of the easiest to drive.

I think you will be well pleased with the ride and drive of a Champion.

    Welcome to the Champion forum!!!

Re: Question about Chine Walking (Lea)

Thanks for the info. I have a Ranger R72 right now and am seriously looking into getting a bigger rig. The dealership I purchased my Ranger from in 95 now sells Champions. I guess I need to go take a Ride.... Thanks again.

Light I run 74 and the chine walking is minimal and easily steered. Add a partner or a full live well and it goes away. I test drove a toon 2 years ago and ran away.

Re: Question about Chine Walking (Combat31E)

Iam on my second Champ & both boats were learned quickly. I don't want to compare another boat to a Champ, but I have heard different stories about other brands . I will tell you that from past experiences, If you have somewhat of a chine, first look at your set up, then the boat. After that if there is a Chine you will learn to correct it at the very time it tries to start.

My boat will walk if its lightly loaded. I know Beetles does too.....
However today I drove my boat with all my gear, a 150 partner, and I was runninh 71 and change and was able to let go of the steering wheel and it didn't walk much at all....

Same here... Mine will chine walk but it is very minimul and is easily steered out of, and only on glass smooth water. Put in a passenger or water in livewell and it has zero chine walk.
