Question Garmin Panoptix Forward and Down Transducers - differences?

sO IF YOU GET THE PANOPTIX TRANSDUCER FOR THE TROLLING MOTOR- YOU HAVE TO GET A FORWARD TRANSDUCER AS WELL AS A DOWN ONE? I WANT TO SEE BELOW THE BOAT BUT ALSO OUT IN THE FRONT. FROM WHAT I JUST READ THESE TRANDUCERS ARE DIFFERENT(THERE ARE TWO TYPES) - SO DO I HAVE TO BUY $3000 OF TRANSDUCERS TO GET THE TECHNOLOGY PLUS THE UNIT NOW....MAYBE GETTING A BIT COST PROHIBITIVE?

You might want to turn "cap lock" off on your keyboard. Apart from that you need just one of the ducers, wich one depends on prefered mounting-style but if you have a TM that would be the way to go from my point of view. (Especially on fast boats, the TM version has a specific speed-limitation.)

Yes you would need 2 to utilize the full feature of panotix. Does this technology come with a price, Yes.

i myself am putting the unit on my trolling motor as this best represents my style of fishing which is open water.

My best application would be fishing jerks for smallmouth, numerous times i don't know that a fish is following til my bait reaches the boat and by then its too late and they spook. If i could see the fish following out in front i have the opportunity to change or adjust my retrieve to trigger that strike. Scanning rockpiles in front of me for fish, scanning under docks, pinpointing my casts to fish in the water column, the applications are endless.

Damn those things are huge! You'd almost have to have a up spring assist to pull that out of the water.

and what happens when you catch a $1500 transducer on a rockpile and it gets jacked up and damaged...that is a sh*t ton of money on a replacement ducer......- early stages of the game with this - I personally am going to get a new Echomap 93 sv for front and back of my boat. wait a yr or two and let the costs come down.....
BTW , if you want a 70 DV ($950) PLUSgcv10black box- on sale for $399- plus $3000 for the 2 transducers = $4600 with taxes for 1 unit..Then 3 years fom now this technology will be replaced with something better. Getting crazy to think $9200 gets you 2 small 7" units with panoptix- INSANITY:)

Since I already own a echomap 70S , and the GVC 10 box. I think I will go just the down panoptix the PS 30 transducer. From what little info on install and hook up I can gather. The PS30 has two leads one for power and one an ethernet plug. This was from a site that lists them for sale but not in stock. So near as I can tell only thing I would have to do is plug into my ethernet connection on GVC 10 and of course run power wires to a 12 volt source.

Since most site have an 8 week or more " till in stock " will have to make sure my assumption is right. Seems to me the Down Vu and Side Vu working in conjunction with the panoptix would be a highly effective tool. Just glad I got the 70S and GVC 10 on sale. With the demand building for the panoptix really doubt if we see a sale on them very soon.

I might be off on this but it looks like if you want the full spectrum you need both of them. The PS31 will only do LiveVu forward and RealVu Forward. The PS30 does three views, LiveVu Down, RealVu 3D Down and RealVu 3D Historical. They don't ever tell you that the PS31 will do DownVu or that the PS30 will do Forward.

What you say is true, but it is my opinion that us freshwater bass guys should make Forward the priority if purchasing both is prohibitive.

Yes, Panoptix Forward is going to be unreal when targeting schools of bass on offshore structure. I can't wait until later in the year when the fish move off the banks into deeper water.
