Garmin's Helm: Who would of though mobile device controlling Chartplotter

I have a Garmin 840XS and am learning something new everyday. OMG, this has caught my attention! iPhone, iPad, Android and Tablets can control my Garmin Electronics. So many things you can do with this. Heck give the angler in the back a Large screen iPad and he can better control his environment from the back of the boat as he sits right under the transducer. Dang that is cool. Turn on SideVu/Down View and adds another element how they fish similar to guys on the trolling motor desires having it up front.

    Wow!!!

    Garmin Rock's!!!!

Where i could see this very usefull would be to mount an ipad next to your bow unit in a waterproof case then you could use the data off the dash unit and control and display. It ends up giving u 2 displays on the bow for a fraction of the cost of a third unit. Only issue is seeing the ipad in direct sunlight.

one other cool feature is you can do a very easy sonar recording right to your phone and text or email it a buddy in seconds.
    just a thought....

I would strongly suggest reading the manual when buying a new unit. :D

Lowrance has been doing the wireless deal for a while now. It's not like Garmin invented it.

No one said Garmin did... Not sure where that came from. Also, I do know wireless is built into many the Garmin units. No add on cost which there is for HDS7, HDS8, HDS10. As of 2014 on my HDS8 and HDS7 wireless was not common and not built into the units. Not so for Garmin 70s, 70dv, and XS series units. It's all good. Lowrance has it if you want to pay extra to have it. That's goo too.
