    Using a Kayak paddle correctly.

I got a kayak paddle a couple of weeks ago to paddle my canoe when I am by myself. I have a mad river passage/adventure 14 canoe. The canoe kind of looks like a hybrid between a canoe and a kayak. I notice that when I paddle with the kayak paddle I get a lot of water spray when I lift the one side up to paddle with the other side. Is this normal, or is there a way to keep this from happening other than shaking the paddle to shake of the excess water after each stroke. Is that also why a spray skirt wood be nessacery. I am still learning as I have only had my canoe for 1 summer.
    Thanks,
    Josh

It might be because you are higher up in a canoe then in a kayak. Have you tried kneeling in the center of the canoe and paddling from there?

Actually the Canoe I have has pretty low center of gravity when sitting. I got to play with it a little more last Sat. and was starting to get better with the paddle. I do think I am going to try to make some sort of spray skirt for the Canoe to keep water out of it.
    Thanks for the advice.
