Questions about my 1990 cajun 178 travis dition

I purchased my cajun last year and I need to do some minor repairs to the livewell system.....There is a pull knob to the right of the driver's seat that I don't know what it's for. I'd love to get my hands on a owner's manual if there is such a thing....if not, just find someone who might know alot about this cajun boat. It's a great boat and I just want to make it even better...If there's someone out there that might be able to help, it would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

    Thanks,
    Anthony

Re: Questions about my 1990 cajun 178 travis dition (goose)

Thanks, That's what I thought it to be....I'm just not sure how it works. I've never owned my own boat until now but most of the guys I fish with do and I've never paid attention to how they get h2o into there livewells....I know that if I leave one of the drain/inlet holes unplugged my boat slowly takes on water....probably from one of the hoses leaking. My boat has the main drain plug hole and then one of these on each side....these on each side each have a strainer cap on them but then it has two other holes further up underneath the hull...under the battery compartment and I'm not sure what they are for.....I'm just trying to make since of it all.

    Thanks again for you help!!!

Now I know what you are asking. Pull the knob to close the valve on the livewell, then turn on the switch for the areator. That will fill the livewell and when it is full, the extra water will go out the hole in the side. The areator doesn't recirculate water, it just pulls in fresh water from the lake outside the livewell. If you push in the knob, the livewell will drain, but not all the way until you pull the boat out of the water. The push-pull goes to a cable which runs the valve in the bilge that controls the livewell. At least that is how it was on my 97 model. Sounds like yours is the same.

Now I get it!!! It's so simple that I overlooked the concept. I guess it's to keep you from having to reach in and plug the livewell. THANKS!!!!!

Yes thats exactly why they have that system, so you dont have to reach in the water to get to the plugs. Also if you want to drain the both livewells or just one and you dont want to get out of the water to do so. Just get the boat on the plane, and then push or pull the lever to drain the water out of the livewell. Now you dont have to drain your livewells when you get out of the water. Also on both livewells you should feel around for a knob, most likely white. Now this is attached to one of the water pipes in the livewells and by turning it the right...tighten it...or turning to the left to loosen it...you can regulate how much water you want to come into the livewell. So what I usually do is tighten the back livewell first so when you want water in your livewells, the water will only be allowed to fill the front one and not the back one, and when your front one is full of fish just loosen the knob in the back livewell to let water in.......I just do that so your not filling up two livewells all the time....its a great feature and took my 1 year to find this out!!!

I wonder if this applies to the 89 series boats livewells also. I am betting that operation of the livewell system is essentially the same across the board, at least I hope, because I sure have not had good luck using mine, I nearly sank my boat because I wasn't sure where to use plugs. the pumps work good, i just need to figure out all the works with the boat in the water well ahead of my next local fishing tourney.

I would just check for the nob that I was talking about which on mine at least regualtes the amount of water flow into the livewells and therefore can choose which livewell to fill up first or both at the same time. However I always make sure I have plugs in each livewell....in the case that the pump system for whatever reason does not work while im on the lake otherwise your gonna have a problem

Re: Questions about my 1990 cajun 178 travis dition (jeffrey265)

On my boat the livewells are completely seperate....one on each side of the battery compartment. Each livewell has a 1/2" pvc line, capped with holes to spray the water and a red shut-off valve at each. I've completely shut off one livewell by plugging the intake hole (to the right of the main drain plug), plugging the drain inside the livewell, and closing the red shutoff valve inside the livewell as well.....this isolates my water problem but it doesn't repair it and I cannot use the driver's side livewell. I plan to try to revamp/repair the entire system soon. I'll replace the pump and any hoses that may end up under pressure. It would just be nice to know how the manufacturer intended it to work....and this is, so far the biggest downside to owning such a wonderful boat.....When I have time on my hands I like to be out fishing, in TX we very rarely let the weather get in the way....and it kinda hurts to have to have to jump into the unknown....

Go to Cajun topics and look for "Manufacturers of Cajun Components List"...you could maybe call these places for help? From what your talking about my system is completely different. And I know what your talking about when you say you would just like to know...it took me quite a while to figure my setup out. Hope this helps

The pull knob is for the livewell drain most likely. It works just like a lawn mower throttle, or an automobile heater switch. Usually you pull it out to drain, push it in to fill.

Don't be surprised if it doesn't work. If not, the easiest way to fix it is to just plug it manually from inside.
