Seeing that picture reminds me. That "breadbox" between the seats. If I remember correctly that was intended to store a motorcycle helmet. I remember thinking I had never heard of anything so silly. Who'd wear a motorcycle helmet in a boat?
Is it big enough for that?
Yeah, its big enough. I've always thought it was a funny shape and wondered about the logic behind it. I keep life jackets, rain coats
and what-not in it
Ok. My memory isn't as bad as I thought it was. I met Ricky at a boat show about 84-85, and I thought that's what he told me. My Buddies 87 RGFM didn't have it, but I remembered us calling it a "Breadbox."
You got a cooler inside the box, just forward of the console?
Nope, no cooler. I wish it had a cooler. I always just end up using one of the livewells.
That was a neat selling feature on the RGFM, when I was showing them. They came with an off the shelf cooler, that fit into that compartment in front of the consol. I forget the brand now, but it was a really neat.
Do you remember what year the RGFM's came out?
In the mid 70's I remember seeing a long green Cajun with "Mean Green Fishin Machine" in bold letters down the side of the boat. This was before the pad boats that were built in the 70's. So I'm guessing this was a 73 or so. Man I wish someone had a picture of early Cajuns. Nice looking rig you have there. Built a lot like my '86 Fishin Machine only mine is an 18 footer.
Is your "Fishin' Machine" a double console with cushion seats forward of the consoles? If so, it's built on the same hull as the RGFM, and the PEFE. THAT was a really nice boat.
Cajun used to build a lot of boats with "flip boards." They'd be cushion on one side, and carpeted deck board on the other. You could flip them over and expand the size of your fishing deck.
The first time I saw one of those boat I just described, I suggested to my dealer that we contact Cajun and discuss replacing the cushion seats in front of the console, with cushion "flip boards", then offering a removable section of deck to fill in the gap between the seats, forward of the consol. At the time, no one had a "flippin' insert" that started to show up on a lot of later boats, especially Rangers.
Nope mine is a single console like this one, dash is laid out different and I suspect a foot shorter.
