    ETEC 90 no oil alarm

I'm a new member, really like the site.

    A Question...

I've got a 2006 ETEC 90hp, less than 50 hours, running xd 100 oil. I've only had it about 2 months, have fished it every weekend, this past saturday what the first time I have had it out in the cold. I guess the temps were some where in the mid 30's when I put in. About 4 miles from the dock, while I was up on plane, the no oil alarm sounded and the motor immediately went into safe mode. It is almost full of oil. This made for an interesting ride back to the dock, 20-25 mph winds on the pamlico sound make for a rough ride, however, when I finally got back, I switched the motor off then back on and it ran fine. No alarms, no safe mode. Any ideas?

Re: ETEC 90 no oil alarm (stoney)

There was a change in the XD100 oil about a year and a half ago. The dealer may still have some old inventory. Have him look into it.

And just because its a 2006, doesn't mean it left the factory with the latest software. There was a software change early this year (late January if I remember right) that addressed false "no oil" warnings. If your motor was built close to, or before than, it might need that update.

    Thanks guys,

I've got it at the dealer now, he immediately informed me about a software update. We'll see how it goes.

Re: ETEC 90 no oil alarm

Got her back last Thursday, apparently the software update already mentined hadn't been installed in my motor when I purchased it. Not a big deal to me, I am a little irritated that it wasn't done before I brought the boat home. I've only had it a few months, and from what I understand this problem was identified late last year. I know for a fact that his particular boat has been on the lot for over a year.
We'll see how she runs this weekend.

Stoney, I know it can be a little irritating to have to take it back. The maps come out sometimes slightly after an engine is purchased. The dealer may not have had the map on site the at the time of sale, an engine may be boxed and shipped and a month later a new map shows up that helps with an issue not previously known at that time. You have to understand that every customer runs an engine differently, in a different part of the country or around the world. There is no way to know all of the scenarios that play out on any given engine. Cold, hot, air temp, water temp, oil flow, starting, shutting down, trolling, W.O.T. and about a thousand things i can't think of, all have effects on the engine. You can bet one thing though, BRP will be there if you have a problem!!!!
