    Trim gauge question

I have noticed that the needle on my gauge does not want to move all the way up to the top when the motor is in full trim. The needle will only go about 80% of the way up then it stops. The motor will trim up into the tilt mode but looking at the gauge you would not think it was there. As soon as you turn the key off the needle goes straight to the top it has always done that so I know that the needle is not sticking any suggestions as to what the problem might be.

check to see if the lever on the trim unit ( sender ) is sticking. I know my trim was getting caught on the wire and only registering about 3/4 way, almost bought a new one till I stood back and noticed it was catching. Yours may be different but something to check.

There is two bolts on the trim sender that when loosened will allow you to adjust the sender, a certain amount, to where you would like it within reason.

Loosen your sending unit bolts, trim the motor to level with a level on the cav plate, check the gauge and adjust. tighten the bolts,( 5/16" head). Depending on the gauge you have it may not show when you are at tilt tube height.

1999 Javelin may have a guage that is not calibrated to the sender and it will not read correctly. Feria is the worst about this, to see which guage you have look inside one of the large guages....Tach or speedo.... just behind the outside ring, you have to be at an odd angle to see the name, see if you can read the manufactures name.

    Re: Trim gauge question (RUSTY63)

    Thanks for the help guys.

Found the problem...the lever on the trim sending unit was sticking. I turned the key on so the gauge would have power and trimmed the motor all the way up so I could check it out. I staring working the lever up and down with my hand and I noticed the needle on the gauge would go all the way up but I had to pull a little on the lever with my hand so I shot a little WD 40 on it and now it appears to be fine.
