    Recessed trolling motor tray

Anyone put one in a 2003? We did and now have a little flex on the right side of the tray. Any ideas on a good fix? Having trouble coming up with something that is going to work AND look good.

CAn ya take a pic of what it looks like under there so we can see? Maybe then someone will surely have an idea to throw your way. There are pretty many inventive guys around here ya know!!

Theres a brace under there. I know some have just cut it. Said it didnt effect the deck at all.

Could you glass say a piece of 3/4" ply flat on hull (as big as possible to distribute weight) and then place a 2x4 vertical up to underside of deck to provide support.

Or maybe consider some sort of cross member support under deck either screwed up under there (pay close attention to screw length) or temporarily support then glass. Might even be able to install a cross member by screwing into rod locker inner walls then glassing to underside of deck.

I have had customers and myself included worried about this but I have never had a customer (unless this is mine) have a soft deck or flex after install and have sold many to all brands over the last 4 years, but not many Allisons. I would also look under deck as much as possible to see if anything bad is going on under there. If your deck had plywood sandwiched between glass (I don't think an '03 would, but if so, I would also seal tray hole cut edge with silicone to prevent any water damage.

regardless, anything I would do would be under deck and invisible. Hopefully the tray hole will give you enough access to do something.

I also know Allison makes there own after market tray and I bet they would have some input.

We actually put the tray back a couple of inches so we wouldn't have to cut into that brace. It is not much but I feel like over time it could get worse.

Shannon thanks for the reply. We are leaning towards putting a verticle support under there going back down to the floor. The problem is where it comes down at is on an angle from the hull. The flex is not bad at all and I really don't think it is a structural concern. It is just if you step right in that spot you get a little flex and I don't like it. I did seal up all the edges of the hole with resin.

Also it is not totally invisible because there is an access hatch to store stuff under the deck. My dad bought the tray and I have no clue where he got it from. He called Bill at Allison and he said not to worry about it but you would just have to know my dad

Re: Recessed trolling motor tray (RoadrashPaul)

    Paul,

Before I put the new carpet down, I did a layout for the future tray.

What I did was to use 1-1/2" heavy wall alum square tubing running from the lip around the storage to the cross brace up front of the deck. I drilled the floor and tubing, bolted thru with 3/8" carriage bolts and 3M 5200 cement the length of the tubing - between the underside of the deck and tubing.

Also did the same stiffner across the front of the bow.

Maybe a bit of overkill but I like the open storage in the bow - not blocked with a scabbed in deck brace.

By the way, I meet Shanon at the Indy show last month - good guy and a good product.

    Re: (resqu-u)

I will get you some in the next couple of days. We took the boat out this weekend for the first time of the season after all the upgrades. All I can say is don't hesitate about the tray. INSTALL IT!!! It is the best thing I have added to the boat. Period.

Second best thing I installed was a tray. SOOOOOOOO much easier on the feet and hips!! Best thing was hydralic steering!!

I have the Allison tray, it's fiberglass. I also cut the cross brace. Noilleffects I can tell. Deck is still solid as ever. Allison will tell you to fiberrglass the tray in from the bottom and that;ll make the deck solid

Allison Tray? I didn't know they were making one. Did you order it through Bill at the factory? How much did it cost?

Welcome to the Allison board Shane!

You can order the Fiberglass tray from Bill @ Allison, not sure on the cost. It is the same tray that is used on the 21 footers.
