went to grandsons BD party in Bowling Green after party went to gander mountain to look at lowarnce elit-5 unit was at the desk for 5 min and another man was there before and the sales clerk ignored both of us, while texting on phone and looking at computer ask for help and was told Im in training. Thought training should be in different room. Left there and went to rivergate academy to look at same unit 3 clerks at gun counter, ask for help didn't know any thing about them and not their dept. Went to desk and lady called the clerk for fishing dept. 5 min later he came to help and you guessed it he was new and all he knew about gps was they were for driving. Now to BPS

Well as I work part time at Gander in Greenwood, Indiana , I can tell you that the new associate at Gander should not have had his phone out on the floor and another associate/supervisor should have been with him for his training.

Yep the CS at Gander Mt in BG SUCKS but I hate to tell ya..... it is no better at BPS.

Good luck at BPS. Crowds are horrible since the new opening of the mall and every time I've been to the electronics dept. at BPS I've been ignored.

It's 2012. You have the Internet. There should be no reason you need the advic of a kid making minimum wage to pick a finder for you..

The CS at our local Gander Mt. isn't any better. Frankly, I only go there if I need a "standard" bait of some kind, because they certainly are not going to have anything that's new or hot. But, I did go there a few weeks back because I wanted to see a 798 and 898 Hbird units side by side, so I could make a decision on which to buy. They had the 798, but no 898. After waiting 5 minutes for a clerk to stroll through the department I was told that that store doesn't stock the 898, but could order one for me. No thanks!

After asking why Gander did not carry tournament weigh bags, I was told by my District Manager that Gander Mountain caters to the "average fisherman"

I politely told him how much water there is in the general area around Indianapolis and how often tournies are fished on this body of water and the Gander in Greenwood was missing a great chance to be one the better fishing shops in the area and that was the response I got... caters to the "average fisherman"

The one here in the next town over isn't GREAT but it's certainly nothing like you just described.. I went in over christmas to buy some fishing tackle and they had knowledgable people.. The gun department left something to be desired though..

In my opinion, get the HDS 5, tried the elite 5 and brought it back to get the HDS unit.
