lost ship from Japan found about a year later off Canada

wow its crazy to think that nobody for a year saw it floating anywhere along the way

A Japanese fishing boat lost in the Pacific Ocean after the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami was sighted March 20, 2012 drifting 150 nautical miles off the southern coast of Haida Gwaii near British Columbia, Canada by the crew of an aircraft on a routine surveillance patrol. The vessel is considered an obstruction to navigation, and a Notice to Shipping has been issued by the Canadian Coast Guard. Photo: Canadian Department Of National Defence / AP

From the article: "In a written statement, U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., said with debris from the tsunami reaching the West Coast sooner than expected, the country can't afford to cut funds from the NOAA marine debris program.

"This discovery is further proof that the U.S. government needs a comprehensive plan for coordination and response to the tsunami debris. Coastal residents need to know who is in charge of tsunami debris response -- and we need clearer answers now," the statement reads."

Wow, let's spend more money funding a gov't program to determine who is responsible for Tsunami debris. I would think that the term "Natural" disaster would apply here

I'm surprised that the Japanese owners don't want it back

That might happen on the coast of California... hell, if a 150 foot ship washed up on the shores of the Tennessee River somewhere, you'd have a family feud between property owners over who got rights to the scrap metal sale!

Helps us realize just how huge the oceans are. Some areas are never flown over or have ships passing...

If its not in one of the shipping lanes chances are good no one will run across it, those cargo ships do not take the scenic route.
