Crude Poetry – by Brian Wilson

"There is a tendency at times like this
To worry and to fret
About how you’ll fill your tank
Without going into debt

Cause when the final bill comes
to around a hundred bucks
you start thinking that it might be time
to trade in your yellow truck

But friends do not despair
My friends, no need for drama
Everything will be okay
says President Obama

We do not need more fossil fuel
We do not need more crude
And anyone who thinks so is a caveman
--- or just rude.

Enlightened thinkers understand
That solar is the way
And half a billion dollars
Is not too much to pay ….

For solar panels made by friends
By donors and by cronies
Ignore those who call it waste
Don’t listen to that baloney

The future is in solar
Or great turbines for the wind
Or maybe diesel made from all the fat
That Michele thinks is a sin.

And if those things don’t work out
Another trick is up their sleeve
An example of the kind of change
in which you should believe

Cause Secretary Chu
(who has a Nobel Prize)
has a plan so grand and wonderful
that you wont believe your eyes.

The answer is before you
Can’t you see it? Are you dumb?
We can fill our tanks up to the brim
With nothing more than … pond scum.

(Yes true, they call it "algae"
but I just don’t have the time
to find a bunch of words
that with that word would rhyme.)

So it’s pond scum for your car
Pond scum for your truck
Pond scum for your planes and trains
And YESS! We’re in such luck

Cause if we need a source of scum
On which we can rely
In our nation’s Capital you’ll find
an in-exhaustible supply."
