    I just blew my motor!

First trip out with it on the BassCat and I knew it was sounding funny. Took off and trimmed er out and about 2 miles from the ramp I blew the lower left cylinder. Guy at the place I'm taking it said it would be anywhere from $2500 to $3800 to rebuild it depending on how tore up it is inside. It's a 96 model with no rebuild so it was time. Like my best friends grandpa (father of Scott Suggs) said, every time you turn the key could be your last. I know I'm putting into it more than the motor is worth but it's far cheaper than buying a new one. I'm keeping the right attitude about it but it's going to hurt like hell to pay for it. I'll just have to tighten my wallet up.

Mine blew up last year, put a hole in a cylinder and I ended up putting a factory rebuilt on for $5000.

What make and model motor is it? You may want to also look for a newer used motor for just a little more $.

Agree, worth a look. There's always someone who's upgrading their powerplant.

Highcentered. I would call the Hydro Tech guys up in Nixa, Mo. They're also doing Mercurys now. I would trust everything I own to them. No one will ever touch my motor but them--The Best.

Took my boat to Brooks Marine in Bauxite, AR. The #6 hole will definately need to be machined and the other five might need some attention too with so much time on them. I'd rather not buy a used motor that someone has likely dogged the hell out of. My '96 Yamaha Pro V 200 is staying with me. I was the one on here last month talking about my Charger being totaled.

There that should answer all the questions in this thread.

buy a new or reman power head and be done with it. You should get a warranty on the PH too.

Find out why the engine blew. Might have been caused from the wreck of your old boat. Pretty close to each other, although might just e coincidence.

The wreck had nothing to do with the motor blowing. The hull got hung on an old iron post under trolling motor power. Too late on the reman ph. At least I know the mechanic working on it will do it right. I also know he'll check and make sure everything is working right.

That sucks. Keep your head up and look through your options. You have a few. Rebuild, New Powerhead, Used motor, new motor with warranty. Now is probably a good time to be looking.
