That's when I get headaches too. My migraines stopped when I was 42 or so.
I wish I had something to tell you. I was given knock me out pills. I'd sleep till they were gone.
oh yeah, I had forgotten. I would go exercise which made my heart beat go up and my nose run.
Or have sex .... yep getting it on with the wife made em go away.
I could feel the relief in my head whoosh right through ! Again the heart rate and the clearing of my sinuses.
Sometimes I'd chase the pain with an ice pack ..... but that gave me a cold most of the time.
NO HEAT !

Life is kinda hard but it's
better than the other options .. er ..option !
Imitrex. I'm 49 and have delt with cluster migraines since I've been 8....thankfully I havent had them in over 5 years.....hopefully I've grown out of them. Imitrex spray cures mine 75% of the time. With cluster, I have sometimes 2 a day for a month to month and a half. Best suggestion...get a great neuologist and chiropractor.
"If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles."
Same here. At times I will have cluster two times aday for about 4 weeks. I started usesing a nasal spray and it has helped alot. Imatrex nasal spray or the shot also helped along with a couple ice packs. One at the base of my neck and one on the temple area. I feel for you cuz they are terrible to deal with. You have my simpathy. Hang in there.
wife and daughter get them. laying down and trying to sleep through it is all that seems to help them.
Had migranes. Since i was a kid .I am now 53 and don't. Get them too often anymore. Really the only thing that worked for me was the Imitrex. It did seem that the pill form started to lose their effects but you can get it as a needle you inject into your thigh and it starts to work right away. I figure i have lost a year of my life to them.

I've had migraines as long as I can remember..........and they suck. I used to sleep on the bus coming home from school, run in the house, puke, go to bed and then sleep till the next morning. They run in my family - my paternal grandmother, my father, me........I justthey are done and my kids don't get them.
Now - here's what I've found...........usually SLEEP is the only way I can get rid of them or at least knock them down to a dull roar. Even a quick 30 min power nap helps me out tremendously.
Imitrex, Ralpacks...........both work for me - and almost immediately. BUT - I can't stand the way they make me feel. All constricted inside - and achy. BUT - if I've got a migraine bad enough, I'll take one.
Excederin and Mountain Dew...........one word - caffeine. That's what's the main ingredient in Excederin (either migrain or extra strength).........chase it down with a Dew and wait about 20min - my migraine is usually knocked down to a bad headache - enough I can actually funtion.
Don't waste your money on the Migraine strength Excederin..........same exact ingredients and dosage as Extra Strenght Migraine.........they just package it different and charge more money.
Man - I feel for all of you that suffer from Migraines..........there's nothing worse in this world. Well, I haven't had kidney stones yet.........![]()

I used to get them really bad, almost daily when I was in grade school. The cause turned out to be mainly sodium nitrate. I rarely get them anymore, I avoid food loaded with the preservative, I haven't eaten a ham dinner in probably 20 years. When I get them I usually get really sick and end up in bed with icepacks wrapped around my head and neck.
Im prescribed Maxalt when I feel it coming on and also take 150mg of Topamax every night. The allergy season (pollen) is starting here this week and it's gonna be hell!![]()
I've gotten them since a kid although they are not as severe as they once were but when I get them now I tend to get them every day for like 3-5 days straight, really sucks! Several years ago I got into shape, dropped a bunch of weight and walked/jogged every day and all my migraines went away when I was doing this. I then broke my femur in 4 places and the exercise stopped, the weight came back on and so did the migraines! So I'd say if you are not exercising, do it and see what happens. The worst that can happen is you drop some weight and get in shape.![]()

I didn't realize there were other cluster headache sufferers on this board. I started getting them in 1985 and they went on yearly until 2002. They are the absolute worst pain I've ever dealt with and I feel for anyone who gets them.
Like was said above you need a good neurologist to diagnose you.
If you guys are interested there is a forum dedicated to cluster headaches which I've been a member for 10+ years. There's a lot of good info on how to deal with these headaches.

I had them until I reached my mid forties. It coincided with the time I was prescribed high blood pressure medication. I don't know if it was the medication or if I just outgrew them, either way I was happy. My migraines, which sometime lasted days, had nausea, light was painful to my eyes, and loud noises felt like someone hitting my head with a hammer. Chocolate and MSG were big triggers. I still get them now but they are rare.
It used to kill me when people would say, what's wrong with you, it's just a headache.

No they pulled all excedrin products due to a recall
Thanks fellers, my migraines have been going on since around 5 or so or so the drs say. I have always dealt with headaches, clusters, tensions, migraines, and these are the mosg painful I've ever had. I think they are all related. I don't treat my body bad but I don't treat it good either. Kinda in between. My migraines come on slowly, and nothing helps. If I take meds to knock me out they wake me up with what feels like a worm crawling behind my right eye in my temple. Gotta figure something out. Cause these things are killing me slowly and painfully...

Mine are in the exact same spot in the right temple and behind the eye. I have had them since I was a kid and they are truly cluster headaches. I have tried maxalt and emitrex and they do not do much for me. The best meds that i have found is a non-narcotic called butalbital (Cephadyn) which contains acetaminophen and caffeine. Caffeine is the way to go since most cluster headaches are due to vasodialation and constriction.
