It explains some but I wonder what else made him unhappy with where the sport is going. It sounded to me that he was unhappy with BASS in particular. Maybe try FLW? Or maybe the main reason is the lack of sponsorship..? Either way, its a shame to see him go.
I didn't know this, but I figured something was up since he didn't have any sponsors on his shirt

Qualified for 12 Classics and can't get sponsors to continue? What a shame. Shows how tough it is out there. Kevin is a great guy and a hell of a fisherman. I hope he makes it back.
He is on the triton pro staff. Thats what he is using in the classic.
I think I remember reading an article about him leaving citing difficulties securing "long term" major sponsorship. When I read that, I automatically thought he didn't like the offer, as if he was given a one year option but wanted longer.

Always liked Kevin Wirth...don't really know why he just seemed like a likeable type when seen or heard in writing. Good for him for standing up for what he wants. If he sees something going the wrong direction to his liking, then good for him on going back to being a equine dentist which I never thought about before. Didn't know there was such a thing, thought they were called a veterinarian. Hope he makes it back to the tour some day...
