I have a HD7 on a big ram mount on the bow.....don't have pics rite now....works well for me tho.
you can use both but I would say you should lay the unit down on the deck if you choose to use the longer one..
Live life, its the only one you get!
You don't scare me.
Oh yeah allot of ppl do ...I'd say most do.
You can see the ball in this pic of my Blue Water lights. It works better for me to be on that side. Most want it closer to the middle. I have a 3" ram arm.

Life is kinda hard but it's
better than the other options .. er ..option !
I am using the 6" arm on the front with a support under it. I used a 1.5" ball, it does OK but the 2" would be better if you are using a big screen. Reason I used the 1.5 is my console unit already had one and I like the two units to be interchangable.

I just installed a Johnny Ray mount for my HDS 8 at the bow. It is the JR 207. It really works well and is less expensive than a Ram.
I used the long arm 2.25" RAM mount for my HB
(no worries Enforcer the zip ties were replaced with black already you picky old man)
Mine is done somewhat like Temple's, except I didn't get the puck Mark Miller makesand it's mounted on the other side. Mine's on the left so the right side is clear of anything to make it safer getting in and out. His looks great though.
