Have a 2005 200hp HO ETech. Purchased Used. I know they don't require some service for a few years, but what about the water pump and lower unit oil. On my mercurys I changed once a year.

Since you bought it used, I'd check/change the lube. Use Evinrude HPF-XR in the gearcase. If you maintaine at least 11-15 psi on the pressure guage at WOT, the pump should be o.k. There are program enhancements available for the engine and possible the pin lit depending on your serial #.![]()
I assume that you bought the motor without an inspection by a technician.
Ask your dealer to hook up his laptop and print out the complete report on the motor that is stored inside the EMM. It will tell you the rpms it was run at and for how long, there is a graph of the motor temperature, make sure a majority is above 150 degrees. This report will also tell you the true operational hours on the engine.
Ask if the software update is the latest and ask about the "deflector pin kit" installation if they are not already installed.
