State of Maine shuts down 3 tournaments on one lake

http://www.themainebladerunners.net We are the largest bass club in Maine. A Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Advisory Council member who is, and only seems to represent Maine guides, got one of our best smallmouth lake shut off for tournaments. This comes after we recieved permits for three tournaments there. They say the fishery is in trouble, but won't look at out tournament results that go back 10 years! The guides can't catch fish and they blame it on us. We don't do shore lunches. We could use whatever help is available to get this overturned.

If the guides can't catch fish on the lake...why would you want to fish a tournament there anyway?

Didn't I say this was one of OUR best smallmouth lakes? We catch lots of 'em. Point is the government people walking all over us without even explaining their reasons.

Care to elaborate which lake your talking about? I've clicked all around your website, and I dont see anywhere on there what lake you're talking about. I'm pretty sure the state doesn't just shut down lakes for no good reason. I'll bet there is more to the story.

As far as I am concerned there is way too much state and federal power. Some one had to have big influence to do this.

I'm going to guess it was either Boyden or Crawford.

If your club belongs to the Federation Nation or TBF, why not contact those organizations for some help?

I support closing down some waters to tournaments as needed. It would be great if it was Webber because some stiff like me could finally get a parking place there on the weekend.

Change it from a tournament to a smallmouth research project. all fish must be weighed, measured and a scale sample sent to the lab for aging. who ever does the most research wins a prize. If you are catch and release wtf is wrong with the dnr.

    Re: (stevew)

Half of the flowage is in Canada.... Hard to imagine they'd shut that down. Are they trying to get the big Canadian tournament stopped as well?

just everyone get together for a "fun fishing day". Keep your 5 (assuming your state regulations allow), and just weigh them in off sight.

I should probably keep my mouth shut about this one. I don't wanna get anybody in trouble. How 'bout we just blame the alewives--they're a menace I tell you!

It does beg the question though: if TX are so detrimental, then why allow any at all? And if any one fishery is in so much trouble, why not make kit C&R for a few years?

Some people are so judgemental. You can tell just by looking at 'em.--Some random meme

Good luck with this. I fought with I F & W. When they stopped touraments on Moosehead. I am afraid your crys will fall on deaf ears. It will be an uphill battle at best.

Although it seems the new Commisioner of I F & W seems tobe willing to talk about having a catch and kill tournament on Moosehead .

Anyway I would be happy to sign any petition you get going.

Wrong Gary - the Commish is talking about a catch and transport to another lake tourney. No kill is not been an option.
