    Powerhead removal.. Help!

Before I go wacking on it to loosen it I want to be sure I have all the bolts removed

    1985 175 HP Evinrude 6 cyl.

Removed the 6 long bolts on bottom sides my mid section.
Removed the 1 nut and 1 bolt up front on each side
Removed the 2 nuts on rear of block inside hood.
    Removed Shift linkage

Dont seem to get any movement. Am I missing any? Do I need to take off the large ones which hold the steering bracket on?

    Thanks!

just to help, you didnt mention that you unhooked the shifter linkage.

make sure you have that unhooked before try to remove the power head. if you dont you may twist or damage the linkage.

hope this helps, others may be here soon to help with more info.

i have a 4cyl 140 johnson, so yours may be slightly different

a word of advise from someone that just finished a rebuild, take your time

You also need to remove the 4 bolts that hold the block to the belly pan One is under the VRO and hard to see. 7/16" heads. Put some tension on the hoist and trim the motor up and down a little it will come off sounds like you got the rest of the bolts to me.

I used a small chain hoist when I changed my powerhead gasket. Took a little bit of effort to get the powerhead off the mid with that old gasket. I would not have liked doing it by hand.

Dude you crazy? That head weighs close to 275#'s Hulk Hogan ain't gonna lift that motor. Engine lift is the way to go!!! You can buy a lift ring or make one out of a Harmonic Balancer puller. 3, 5/16X 3.5"X24 thread. One solid Eye bolt with big solid washers and a nylon lock nut. Hoist away.

I bought one of these 'cause I wanted/needed one anyway. A handy little rig to have around for under $120.
