It depends on what you are looking for? If you are looking for a good spotted bass lake then it can be good. Most of it fishes like a river instead of a lake. Most lake like areas are on the south end of the lake from what is called Lake Gadsden near Interstate 759 down to the dam. Most everything upstream of that point is riverine. Where are you planning on staying and putting in at? As typical with spots the bite is dependent on current. When you are down here you can get the generation schedule by calling 1-800-lakes11. It is awfully hot at that time down here and the water temps will be too so you will have to find cooler water on the ledges more than likely or fallen timber in deeper water. Topwater will be good at daybreak. Take a look at Logan Martin too, especially if you are staying close to the dam.
I am thinking of doing a co-angler with the PAA and this is the only tourn when my kids are out of school. It is about 8 hrs from me. I would book a room close to th lake I would think. I have not looked into it that far.
Might could try this forum - not sure how much traffic it has had lately.

Was a guide on Neely Henry back in the 90's. Has made a huge turnaround since then.
Takes 15lbs to win tourneys in summer with some 20 lb sacks in spring. When they pull water daily in July, be on a ledge with a crankbait and you can load the boat with 2-3 lb spots.
Due to some back problems. I can't fish for a while. I'll be happy to help you if needed.
