The one project i wanted to do to my rig this winter

Is to get my trolling motor situation taken care of. When i first bought my boat it had an older MG 70 something and i took care of that the first time i got on plane and forgot to pull the trolling motor. Actually getting on plane was good, it was the sudden stop that killed it.

Anyway's, i found a used MK 80 Pro with a 52 inch shaft that my boat really needed for fishing big waters like Lake Michigan. Got a sweet deal on a barely used motor and got home only to find out that the MK pedal does not fit in my factory recessed tray. I have thought about trying to find someone to swap an MG for my MK, but i really like the MK and its hydro deployment and i like the MK foor pedal also.

I just can't bring myself to cut into the deck, especially with the factory molded deck like i have. For 3 years i have had this thing jimmy rigged on my deck and my back kills me when i fish and it would be much safer to have a recessed tray in high winds and chop.

Looking at the pictures, do you guys think i will have any problems installing a tray? Dimensions of factory mold is 17.5" X 15.5" X 2 inches deep.

My MK pedal is 8.5 inches wide, thus the problem..

Not sure what you have for a boat, but I would ask in that boat form. I put a recessed tray in my last boat , not really a big deal. Good luck.

I'm missing something here. By the dimensions you provided, it should fit? Did you mean 5.5"?

Cutting into fiberglass is relatively easy and I don't think you'll have any problems.

Looks like you already have a small recess, dont see why you should not be able to put a bigger recessed foot pedal in there. I did mine last year, it is very easy with a jigsaw and a few blades, and drill 1/4" holes in the corners.

I agree it's not really a big deal but it's a butt-puckering experience if you've never cut a hole that big in your boat before!!

Couldn't you just shave .5" off each size of the pedal base?

thats what i'd do. or turn the tray upside down, trace the entire thing, then make marks 1/2" to 3/4" (depending on the size of the lip of the tray and the screw holes), get a straight edge, and mark it that way.
