2003 150 HP OX 66 Will Not Shut Off

I have a 2003 150 OX66. Starts and runs fine. I tried to turn the engine off and it will not turn off. Pulled the rip cord and it still will not turn off. When I turn the key to the off position (with engine running still) the gauges and other electrical components controlled by the ignition switch turn off. This tells me that the switch is most likely fine. I have been reading a lot of different posts and still do not have a clue what is wrong. The problem started two days ago, when the temp got into the mid 20's overnight. That afternoon, the temp was warmer and the engine turned on and off normally. The next morning, the same thing, it would not turn off. Any ideas?

Chris maybe the inside of your switch is damp and when it freezes it prevents it from making contact. Maybe ?

I would think you have a loose wire or bad connection somewhere. I don't have a wiring diagram for that engine but generally speaking, the ignition switch sends an ignition wire to ground, killing the ignition.

On your ignition sw. the black wire should read to ground. If it doesn`t look for a loose or broken wire. The blue wire is the kill wire ( ground it and ignition stops). The ignition switch will connect the blue to the black killing the ignition. The other stuff will cut off because the switch is shutting the power off to them. The blue wire also goes through the emergency shutoff switch and the neutral switch on the remote control. The black wire grounds on the engine above the CDI on the back of the motor.

I still think its moisture, Before you leave the house try it on your muffs if it still doesn't shut off try heating the switch with a heat gun or hair dryer. If it starts to work correctly then buy a new switch.

The fact that the emergency kill doesn`t shut it off either tells me it is a ground problem. If it doesn`t shut off how are you killing it? If it will start in gear when it is acting up this would reinforce the ground theory.

I had to pull the spark plug wires. Unfortunately, the boat is on a lift in NC so I don't have a lot of time to trouble shoot it. I am hoping its not a CDI. Can anyone confirm if the ignition has a relay that could be faulting?
