Where to stay at Lake Falcon?

A friend of mine and I have been thinking about making the trip to Falcon. We also have a few other friends that will probably be up for the trip once we get the ball rolling. With that said, I have been looking around online for accommodations at Falcon and I was wondering where some of you guys would recommend. Considering that this trip will be about 1300 miles each way and maybe a once in a lifetime trip we are also considering spending 3-4 days on Falcon and then making our way up to Amistad for a few days as well. We figure if we are going to go that far we might as well take them both in while we're there.

Byron Velvick's place looks like one of the nicer places on Amistad, but the choices on Falcon don't seem so appealing, so I was hoping to get some feedback from you guys. I was also wondering if it anyone knew of place that rents boats on Falcon or Amistad. It would be really nice to avoid towing a boat 2600 miles.

I have never heard of boat rentals at Falcon. There are NO marinas on the lake not even gas service. Almost all of the motels in Zapata accommodate fisherman. On our last trip last fall one of the guys boats was vandalized and another boat had the electronics & rods stolen at Oso Blanco. We usually stay at Falcon Heights, not fancy but very close to the state park & very good people.

At Amistad, American Campground http://www.americancampground.net/index.htm has nice cabins for reasonable rates and 4 guys can fit comfortably in them, they sleep 6. We have had as many as 5 and it wasn't that bad. They are airconditioned, small fridge, and have small tv's but showers are about 50 yards away and are typical campground type showers. Good way to stay for cheap. I don't have any recomendations for full service facilities, but Byron Velvicks place is usually full when we visit so it must be decent.

I have been to Falcon once and stayed at Oso Blanco and it is a dump so I would stay away from there.
