I read an article on this a while back. Somehow it is cheaper to build a bridge in segments in China then ship it to the US and assemble it on site.

Just hard to understand why our government screws things up to the point it is cheaper to ship a bridge half way around the world than to build it on site here.

Ever worked with Chinese Super Steel? I have and it is what it is....junk!
Wonder why it's so cheap? There's so many impurities in it...you can't even machine their mild steel because they even throw hardened pieces in with it so yu'll have a hell of a time trying to machine it.
I worked for a plastic injection mold company that bought all their mold bases here in the U.S.
Then comes a Chinese manufacturer that can produce them for about a 2/3rd the cost of American. After three months of hell on wheels trying to machine the bases...they found out real quick they were losing money!

Considering the large number of posts I see on bass forums titled

"What's the least expensive . . . ." or "Looking for a XXXXX. . .under 100$", which many times translates into buying something made overseas, seems we have one view when it's our personal bucks, another when it's a business' money.

I wonder what would happen if China had unions and didn't have an average pay scale of $0.31/hour.

That is what we are fighting, yea there are things we do that hurt our chances to compete but nothing outweighs their pay scale compared to ours.

Looks like that great stimulus package in finally creating jobs. Oh wait, wrong country.

I think that they should pass a bill where a sign must be put up at both ends of the bridge stating, "This bridge was made and erected by Chinese workers". That way I can choose to trust my life crossing, or I can turn around and look for an American built bridge.

With all of the bridges that have been erected over many, many years, I'm sure that our workers can build a safe bridge that will last for many years to come. I cannot say the same for the Chinese built bridge.

This is coming from retired purchasing manager who was forced by the company to buy Chinese crap! I seen what they build first hand.
