First Off lets talk requirements, What do you users believe to be the three best qualities for a pro staff position?
We will start here and move into other aspects in the future...

to be able to represent your company in a very positive light and have the ability to have a very good return on your investment.
Someone who has a record of being objective and well liked.
Someone with a proven sales background.
Someone who doesn't smoke, doesn't talk smack, doesn't look like a homeless guy, has little to no facial hair, be able to speak the English language well, and have great proven grammar skills.
If they can fish well that's a bonus.
Icaonelli does ok for what he does, but most would rather put their money into KVD than Ike most days.

I believe someone that actually uses the product/service/company and can talk about it intellegently would be a great prostaffer. A person that gets exposer and and is willing to work hard to earn that spot.
To promote the company in the best possible way. To introduce the company to people who may not be aware of their products or services. To provide a professional and positive image for the company and show pride and professionalism in what you do.
I would have to say someone that can relate to John Brown everyday fisherman to KVD pro fisherman. I'm ready for an interview in Auburn, AL anytime
I would say someone who can approach or be approached anywhere, ramp store ect. they need to know the product lines colors and requirements to have a special color. someone who fishes an area not 1 lake but a area of lakes reguraly. they need to be able to speak w confidence on baits and be able to give feed back good and bad on new product.they should have not only have tournements under there belt but also shring time w other anglers so the word spreads (guide of sort). then the basics clean boat w good electronics (trolling motor finders/gps,and power pole). the boat doesnt have to be new but should be noticable by decals or color.it has to stand out and catch the anglers eye to hook there wallet.
Soooo, we have to have a power pole and a $2000 graph to get a sponsor?
1. Honesty/Integrity.
2. Good communicator (written/verbal).
3. Team player who can apply #1 & #2 objectively following the direction & marketing strategy put forth by the company at all times.
I think that you as a business would need more than 3 aspects in determining what and who would make a good pro staffer for your company. But since you only asked for the top three I'll give you mine.
1) A Good Ambassador to Bass Fishing. To me this is someone who is geniunally concerned about the sport of bass fishing across all levels of interests, abilities and capablilites.
2) A Person of Integrity. This is a person that is going to be responsible for promoting your company in your absence. You have to believe that this person will conduct themeselves at a higher level at all times so as not to tarnish your reputation. You want the public to look at this person and say he represents his sponsor so well that I would like to deal with that company.
3) A Competent and Confident Individual. Here is a person that knows what works, when it works, how it works, why it works and how to make it work. A person that can explain, employ and conquer while being humble without being arrogant of self righteous.
If I were looking for someone to represent my company, these three traits would be important to me.
A true ProStaffer
Needs to be:
Professional, in appearance and actions
Promotional, of the company he/she represents
And as Brian mentioned as Sales Person.
If a Prostaffer cannot bring additional sales to the company, they aren't worth having.
I would recommend they submit a resume. The person needs to be professional and have the proper people skills to represent your company. A background in business or even competing in tournaments in my opinion is optional.
The first thing i would look for is a person who will be a positive influence for the company...exposure means nothing if it isn't seen in the public's eye as positive.
Second is exposure and not just from tournamnet guys. not everyone fishes tournaments or watches them on television and if they do they probably know who you are anyway.
some type of business experiance whether it be in sales or just general knowledge. being able to communicate effectively is also very important...written or spoken, if people can't understand what you are talking about then your product will be forgotten the quickest.
Simple gotta be a good salesman. The individual needs to bring in enough sales/orders that justify whatever the costs are to have them on the staff. Personally I didn't get into this sport to be a salesman, bass fishing is my passion and I just like the competition. Only way I could ever sell a product for someone is if I already used it and absolutley believed in it. Which would make promoting natural.
Have them submitt a video resume of an event (Clinic) they held to see how the present themselves. How many other sponsors do they have? Might be a good thing to ask, since they may be spending more time on another sponsor......and not representing you as well.
Someone that is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, clean, brave and reverent.......Oh yea a decent fisherman and salesman...
A proven track record of success on the water and even better if his successes include your products.
A person who has the respect and admiration of his peers.
All the above, with a past history of seminars, demos. That's what it is about getting the name out there in a positive light. Obviously a good tournament history is helpful and more respected in the community. If I were an internet tackle company I would look at sponsoring bass clubs, lots of bang for the buck.
