    Jerkbait Rod??

Looking to try my hand at jerkbait fishing this spring and not sure what kind of rod to start with. Never really fished jerkbaits at all. A little for river smallies but those were small 3 and 4 inch jerkbaits worked real fast and eratic in warmer water. Looking for a rod to fish Megabass 110 type baits in cooler water for largemouth.

I currently have the following rods I am considering, not really wanting to buy a special rod until I catch a few.

    6'6" MH St Croix Avid
    6'6" M St Croix Premier
    6'9" MH Veritas

Which of these rods do you think would be the best and why?

BTW Sorry for posting a fishing question in the lounge

6'6" or 7' med action spinning or casting rod should do you just fine.

    Lightning Shock 6-6 medium.
For a spinning rod for jerkbaits, It's by far the best bang for the buck.
And the guide inserts are better than titanium for really cold weather.
I think the new secret color is "A-Rig"..........

I throw mine on a 6-6 M, no problems with it.

    Re: Jerkbait Rod?? (Neilslure)

IMO a MH is too much rod for the Megabass 110, i prefer a medium action for the 110s, if you are planning on throwing L.C. pointer 100 the MH would be fine. I just purchased a Dobyns 704 cb rod for the Megabass 110s it feels good in my hands but i have yet to use it on the water. I own a couple of 6-6 M St. Croix Avids and they are decent for the 110s but i was looking for something with a softer tip and a rod that would cast them further. So out of the rods you got listed i would think the St. Croix premier would be your best option.

Re: Jerkbait Rod?? (Nitro Bob Rourke)

medium power in the crankbait rod line of Croixs are only good for throwing crappie crankbaits!

If choosing the Croix, get the MHM (medium heavy power, moderate action)
