I have an 1197 of the front deck and it's on the 2 1/4" ball (the "D" series in RAM-speak) and the "short" 5" arm.

As tall as you can get. In ordinary chop and sweels, just tighten it down good. If it's ultra rough, loosen the arm, rotate down to just touch the deck, tighten the arm.
