Mine is very reliable. However none are immune to problems. I think most of the "blew ups" are preventable.
I would rather read questions about symptoms and problems than read sombody booo hoooing about how junky the entire product line is.

I heard dat'!!!!!!
It depends are you talking OMC built fichts or are you talking BRP built product??
Guys, I've owned the so called bullit proof motors only to have em blow, after evaluations I've come to find that 90%, if not more, were operator error..................... Or for example somebody not knowing what to look for! I have owned 2, 3 cyl motors that were hosses, However I found after the first time on the water that # 2 carb wasn't getting fuel, fixed the problem, ran it for 4 months.......... Guess which cyl blew YEP # 2!!!! It will come back to haunt you!!! The motors are like any thing else, they have to be taken care of!!!!! If you are lackadaisiel in your up keep you will reap what you sow!!!! JMHO!! Just a FYI
Whoaa horsey...Didn't mean to piss so many people off (Jorge, fishaholic,) Just belonging to a club with so many people and when my buddy's 225 ho blew up last summer it was one thing then mine did now his did again a year later also another guys 175 ficht went the clubs guys are all talking wondering whats going on with these motors.. also i read the posts from other rude members and this year particularly it just seems like every other post is a blew motor or blew again or whatever...Not saying evinrude is not good or other makes are better just saying everytime i turn around its another motor gone down and quincidently it has a evinrude tag on it.......So for all you Evinrude guys i'm still a rude owner and plan to stay one Just saying what i'm seeing....so easy big fellow....I'm sure its just quincidental next year 5 merc's in my club will go down and will be all talking about that but so far that hasn't happened just the rudes are in the shop getting rebuilt, some again for the second time ......chris
Don't think anybody is picking on you, motors blow, have problems etc., that is why the mods are here, this is an honest and open forum and no bias at all. Some models have had problems but if the owners would take them in for regular service, 90% of the problems would be eliminated! But most boaters have a car owner mentality and change oil when the light goes on! There are specific checks that are recommended in the owners manual. If you don't follow the recommended schedule who is to blame the manufacturer or the owner???
I hear ya. I guess i'm disappointed that mine went i mean i do like you said maintance good oil all that but i had a fuel injector go bad and well not much you can do to avoid that....But i'm staying faithful this weekend i'm actually driving from nj to tn to have rusty63 install a newer motor on my boat 2004 di 225 ho so i will have a new motor to bring back and break in and i can assure you what ever rusty tells me to do with her i will word for word...![]()
I'm glad you got it worked out so you can get back to fishing 21ssextreme.![]()

What is that old saying about motors,
There are 2 kinds of motors. Those that have blown and those that are fixing to blow.![]()
Or something like that. I just remember it wasn't brand specific on which ones were going to blow. All of them are, just a matter of when.![]()
Remember that no-one gets on here and asks questions when everything's going fine.
Wouldn't be very interesting reading posts like this:
"Motor's started fine for the last 11 months. Nothing's blown up."
And I suppose that's what most that visit here would have to contribute.

21ssextreme, I'm not pissed off. I am just trying to save the mods on this board the hassel of defending the Evinrude name. Claims that an entire product line is unrelialble are just not cool.![]()
I think everybody has eventually made their point clearly and as politely as possible in this thread.Lets just say I'm kinda glad my Johnson 120 is carburtated. I have been very impressed with its' performance and now I feel OMC/BRP has earned my future business. I also see the benifits that Direct Fuel Injection brings to the table. From what I know (which is not much), all the outboard manufacturers have a different recipe for their Direct Injection Systems and OMC's Ficht was probably the most inovative and the most efficient version of Direct Injection. The key to a good Direct Injection outboard is, in my opinion, a good relationship with a qualified technician in order to help you maintain it and to keep the manufacturer abreast how each motor performs in the real world, no matter what the brand is. My dad has a 2002 Kenner 24ft Tunnel Hull Bay Boat with a Evinrude 200 Ficht (E200FPLSN / G04985263) and has had a heaping helping of problems with it (thank you Seatow). So much that we will most likley opt not to take it to the wrecks 10 miles off shore chasing Kings during vacation next week. However, with all of this in mind I think the proper statment regaurding this would be "My dad's Evinrude is unreliable" and not "Evinrudes are unreliable". As mentioned before, this board is full of Evinrude problems but that is what its here for, in part. Most of the guys that don't have any trouble don't come on here looking for help. Like Rudetech1 says, "If it ain't broke don't fix it. However, if it is broke, go to BassBoatCentral.com and ask the pros on the Evirude boards, they can HELP YOU fix anything.

That's what I'm saying to a certain extent Fish...... I think the Fichts were good motors and their reliability was based alot, not totally but a lot, on who your tech was when you had a problem. There is a lot of em out there STILL running strong!!!
1998 FICHT 150hp 423 hours and still running strong, cept for the starter motor thingy slipping![]()
