Since there seem to be a lot of talk about..................

the BEST Defense (college team) of all time I'm gonna go back a few years.......to 2007 when USC was supposed to have been it.....but lets actually look at it from a Statistics point of view......top 10

and BTW....I didnt copy-paste this.....I did this all myslef

Using "points allowed per season" as one of the rank & file on this one.

#10 Arkansas 1964, posted 134-7 against regular season Oponenets & held Nebraska to 7 points in Cotton Bowl.

#9 Oklahoma 1985, the year Trot Aikman broke his leg & loss to Miami but Beat #1 Penn state in Orange bowl. Limited Texas to 70yds total, held NU to 161 yds & zero points.....Linebacker Brain Bosworth was a key part in that

#8 Miami 2001, Speed....know as one of the FASTEST defenses at that time. went 12-0 for national title stopping Nebraska & Heiseman winner Eric Crouch as well 37-14 @ Rose Bowl.

#7 Ohio State 1968, Beat #1 Purdue 13-0, beat USC 27-16 with Heisman OJ Simpson.

#6 Nebraska 1995, Known as one of most Dominant Defenses of the Decade with a National title that year against a Gunning Florida Gators team. Secondary was unmatched and with Lineman Peter & LB Grant Wistrom, there was no Denying them the title holding Florida's high scoring team to 24 points.

#5 Oklahoma 1974, 11-0 and was Nationa only unbeaten team defeating a then 10-1 USC team that was picked to win the title mid season with there steller Offense. Held Texas to 13 points & no other teram came close to score 2 touchdowns with 3 shutouts....63-0 outscoring in 2 of them and 72-3 to Utah. Lee Roy Selmon would be #1 draft pick in 1976 & brother Dewey lead way upfront.

#4 Alabama 1992, Best known for the 34-13 dismantling of unbeaten defending national champion Miami at the Sugar Bowl & DB Teague stripping ball from Lamar Thomas. With a 13-0 record and holding Opponents to an average of 1.67 rushing yards per attempt.

#3 Nebraska 1971, husker vs Sooners for game of the Century. Score was 35-31 which was the most allowed all season to any team, including that of Alabama whoch only scored 6 points in Orange bowl and National title was at hand. Overall, they allowed more than seven points only three times all season. The defensive line, led by Rich Glover and Larry Jacobson.

#2 Syracuse 1959, numbers are all you need. 5 Shutouts, Limited a then HOT kansas team to only 30 snaps in the game. Boston Univ helf to 25 total offensive yards & only 193 rushing yards allowed in 10 regular season games......59 points totoal allowed all season & beat Texas 23-14 @ Cotton bowl for 11-0 season & National Title.

#1 Alabama 1961, The Crimson Tide allowed just 22 points in 10 regular-season games and rolled into the Sugar Bowl with a streak of five consecutive shutouts. That was halted — barely. Alabama defeated Arkansas 10-3 to complete its unbeaten season. Razorbacks wide receiver Lance Alworth, one of the best pass-catchers in college football history, was stymied by Alabama’s defense, led by linebacker Lee Roy Jordan.

NOW...........................there is a lot of Discusion of WHO has the best defense of "MODERN TIMES".....each one of them have a National title as well.

that being said this is how they ranked.....top 8 in decenting order
    VT 2006............9.3 PPG, 221.1 YPG
    OSU 2007.........10.7 PPG, 225.3 YPG
    Alabama 2009....11.0 PPG, 241.7 YPG
    Miami 2001........9.4 PPG, 270.91 YPG
    LSU 2003...........10.8 PPG, 259.5 YPG
    LSU 2011...........7.8 PPG, 206.1 YPG
USC 2008..........7.8 PPG, 206.1 YPG (as mention from 2007 as well)
    Alabama............10.5 PPG, 252.1 YPG

NOW.....if any of you want to ague that.....go ahead.....but here is something that IS not Listed

in 1939 Tennesee went 10-0 and there opponents scored ZERO POINTS on them that year......but Lost to USC in the National title @ 1940 Rose Bowl 0-14.

SOO............................if you want to call the LSU or Bamma Defense the Best of ALL TIME.......go ahead.....but it is what it is.

I'm sure whoever compiled all those stats would appreciate a "Thanks", at least.

Are you saying that the 1939 Tennessee team could somehow compete with the 2011 Alabama team?
I think the new secret color is "A-Rig"..........
