    Atchafalaya Basin

How good will the fishing be on the Atchafalaya Basin out of Morgan City be in June? We have a Central Divisional BASS tournament there. Should I bring an extra lower unit?

Nah, but do plan on much time exploring and plan on running a ground. The mud is nice and soft, so likely no damage to the prop or lower unit.

It can be a tricky fishery. Where you fish and how you fish has everything to do with the water levels. Guys that know the area catch a ton of fish, and I am not one of them

We only found one really bad spot but when we found it it was to the tune of a prop, gouges in the lower unit and gouges in the fiberglass. They had stacked big rocks all the way across one canal and they were about 5 inches below the water level at that time.

This is correct. The water level and whether it's rising falling or level are the controlling factors in the Basin. That and just finding the little critters.

In June, the difference between 20 lbs or 0 lbs can be literally feet apart. What I mean is, this area is unpredictable in the summertime, but the payoff can be big. Bring your jigs and frogs and come explore. It will all depend on water movement and weather conditions.

Thanks guys! I'm looking forward to seeing some different water. It sounds a little bit like the Tom Bigbee Waterway in MIssissippi. I fished a Divisional there several years ago.

I'll get you the gps coordinates so that you won't have to find it the same way! It was a strange deal, we couldn't figure out why the blocked that canal off that way just under the water.

We were there in October and the trip was awesome! We caught 160 fish but I think only 6 keepers and a few gators.

Its not the rocks its the gators that will take a lower unit plum off.
