    Iridium Spark plug?

    I saw a guys asking on another board about Iridium plugs and with Google, I found the below. Based on the info below, it seems they would be the ideal plug for Fichts. Has anyone here tried these plugs and if so, how did they do? If you haven't tried them but know of them, what are your thought?

    ====================================

    Iridium: 8 times stronger than platinum, 6 times harder, and with a melting point 1200 degrees higher. New laser welding techniques make it possible to make a spark plug with an iridium electrode. The result is a plug that requires less voltage to spark, burns more of the fuel in the cylinder, and can spark at LEANER air/fuel mixtures (see inset diagram), resulting in higher horsepower and better gas mileage.

    Although the plugs are expensive, you don't have to change them as often as garden variety spark plugs. The iridium electrode is extremely resistant to erosion, so it can last MUCH longer than a normal plug. (Longevity will vary by usage, fuel mixture, and other factors.)

    It seems the plug is a non-starter. I just got off the phone with NGK and the tech there told me their Double Platinum would last longer in the Fichts/DIs because both the Ground and Electrode were platinum. The Iridium plug's ground is not a precious metal and would cause the ground to wair.

    It seems NGK created a plug that would be perfect for the Ficht/DI if they would just change the ground to Platinum or something else for it to last as long as the electrode.

    Now, I'm wondering if the ground the the Champions are also Platinum. Anyone know?

    The ground electrode on the champions are not platinum, but they have a platinum strike pad built into it. Therefor, essentially it is a double platinum plug.
    If you look through the recent posts on here, there is one about aligning the strike pads prior to installing the plugs, it is the platinum pads on the center and ground electrodes which are being referred to in that post.

    the 2007 big block E-TEC's will have an iridium plug that will also work in the older E-TECs and FICHTS. They are said to exceed the 300 hour E-TEC maintenance schedule but should be replaced at that time.

    Part number 5007120 and costs about the same as the other plugs.

    The Champion QC and XC series plugs for DI, FICHT, and E-TEC are double platinum. Those are the little "pads" that you see on the ground electrode.
