And oh yeah... it was really windy
Fished Brushy Creek for about 2 hours friday night, right after some torrential rains and just in time for the typhoon winds. Caught some nice keepers in the short time we were out up by the dam including one that was between 5 & 6 lbs. Dead sticking a jerk bait was the best pattern (and I mean deadsticking!). Twitch it a couple of times and read a chapter from your favorite book. Water was crystal clear and about 49 degrees. Our tournament was sunday... how things change! Water was a bit stained but still clearer than I have seen it for a few years now. My pattern from friday only produced one fish... a FAT musky about 36 to 40" long, man those are a blast to catch
. Other than that, we were LOST. Started second guessing everything I did and went into panic mode. Only brought three keepers in but one was big bass for the weekend by my brother. All our fish came off of shallow points next to deep drop offs... but this was not the pattern we should have been fishing. I did happen to see the biggest frigging smallmouth I've ever seen in my life though... just as it sniffed my jerkbait and swam away
. Don Williams wasn't much better. Water temp was 48 degrees and stained (two feet clarity). Caught my limit of 9 1/2 lbs and brother added one 2 pounder. Only had maybe 5 bites all day long. Two early on crankbait and a 4 lber on white spinnerbait right before weigh in. Fish were scattered and everyone struggled, I think blast off for both days the temps were in lower to mid 30's with 25 -35 MPH winds saturday and 15 - 25 MPH winds sunday. Mother Nature hates me! I really need to add to my arsenal, when this cold front hit I simply couldn't make the adjustments. I am so accustomed to success on a certain pattern on Brushy that even in those conditions I couldn't abandon it and it cost me. Lesson learned..... one day too late
