    New E-TEC 200, wrong lifting ring...help!

My new 60 degree E-TEC 200 (2.6 liter) is here, and in preparation for mounting it I purchased a lifting ring from the nearest BRP/Evinrude dealer. The lifting ring is part number 396748 (at least that's what's stamped in the casting) and it clearly is not the correct part. Do any of the BRP/Evinrude experts out there know the correct part number, and what the lifting ring should look like? I will return this one, but want to be sure that I get the correct one so I can mount the engine.

Thanks in advance for the expert help.

Here are photos that show the lifting ring and the top of the flywheel:

I don't have the part number here at home but the lifting tool you need is the same one that has been available for all Ficht and DI 60 degree motors since 97.

Thanks for the info Rusty. I can not believe that this dealer gave me the wrong part. All they do is sell and service Evinrude and Johnson. When you have access to the part number, could you post it here?

    Thanks,
    Andy

By the way, what motor is the lifting ring I have used for?

Problem solved. The dealer exchanged the lifting ring for the proper one (and a few more dollars) so I'm good to go. The tech who sold it to me hasn't rigged a 60 degree 200, and when he heard me say 200, he automatically assumed it was the big block, even though I was very specific about what motor I had. Thanks for helping ID the correct ring.

These things happen. It's easy for the parts people to get confused, they do not work with the product. Being a new engine,it takes a while for them to get used to the product.

WHat I would like to know is what dealer sold you this engine in the box?? THis is the reason why BRP does not want dealers to sell engines this way. IT states in the BRP contract that they can not sell this way. Just think if by some chance that lifting eye did bolt up some how to the flywheel. Its not designed for that engine. THe lifting bolts could have broke and down goes the engine and hopefully not onto somebody. With todays engines you need to have them installed by a dealer. THat way its right and you will not have any warranty problems if something goes wrong.

johnrude, the motor will go to a BRP dealer for final set up and commissioning before it's run. With all due respect, hanging and rigging an outboard motor is not beyond the capability of many backyard mechanics, myself included. It was clear by inspection that the lifting ring was the wrong one. I'm sure there are many folks on this forum who use lifting rings to change hole settings, install jack plates, etc. and I'll bet most of them are not dealers.
