Boat crash

My Boat (20' Dusky) got slammed this afternoon......I was trailering her home when this F&*$#% Idiot crashed into my motor(2001 225 Ficht)....... I was stopped at a red light and he hit me at about 10 mph....I know my skeg and prop took the brunt of the hit and both are bent. The outdrive which is fiberglass is also cracked where the lower engine bolts connect to the stern drive. I also have a broken trailer winch now..... I have NOT ran the motor since the crash..but my trim and tilt worked fine...Where else should be looking for other damage?


My question is....has anyone ever dealt with insurance companies with trailering crashes? I want this F$%#7 Idiot to pay thru the nose.....It just doesn't seem fair to do all of this work on my boat and be taken out by an idiot...Now I probably lost my summer fishing before it really started......

Not sure how Florida laws work regarding auto no-fault.......but you may have recourse from the F*&(&* idiot's auto policy......under his "property damage" section.

Make sure you get his policy number and insurance company and contact the company direct to file a claim.

Good luck........sorry about the boat & motor. This has been one of my biggest fears since owning a rig.

If he rearended you he is at fault and his company should pay. Hopefully the police were called and an accident report was filled out and fault assigned.I had my boat totalled a few years back by a drunk driver and had a check fairly quickly. Accidents happen I'm sure he didn't intend to hit you don't be to hard on him unless he was drunk or neglegent or something. Contact your agent if yoiu haven't already....SMG
