    2000 225 Johnson Lost 800 RPMS

I have a 2000 225 Johnson HO with a lightning gear case. The complete model number is J225HGLSSC and serial number is G04817051. Recently I blew the pinion gears in the lower unit and had a new lower unit installed. While the dealer had it I had him him change the fuel filter and do a tune up. I got it back last week and had to bring it back for a quick adjustment because it wasn't shift completely into forward. I finally had a chance to go back out today and give it a try. Went into gear fine and drove around slow for half an hour to break it in like the mechanic suggested. When I finally went to make a good run I was only able to get 5000 RPMs and a top speed of 54 on the gps. This is a big drop from around 5800-6000 RPms I use to get and around 67, 68 MPH. When I put hammer down it was very sluggish never even close to make a jump to get on plane. Reminded me of when I had my 17 foot tracker with a 25 years ago on take off. I treid 2 different props to see if that made a difference and it didn't. Motor didn't sound funny or make any funny noises but could tell it wasn't the same sound when the running a wot before. Anyone have any suggestions of something to look for or waht it could be?

    Thanks
    Rob

Remove the air box and look at all 6 throttle plates to make sure they are all wide open together. If someone forgot to tighten the shaft connectors while performing the sync and link, one plate may not be opening all the way.

If that's not it, pull the plugs and look for one to be significantly different than the others. That will give you a starting point for when to take it back to them.

Removed the air box and all the throttle paltes are wide open together. Took the plugs out. All looked the same except for the bottom plug on the pasenger side. It looks like it brand new spark plug.. Iwould take it this must be the cause of the problem? Could it be something easy to fix or is this something major?

Update. Just got back from dropping the boat off. Mechanic look at it and said definatley no fuel getting to that particular cyclinder. Showed me that the carb was spitting the gass out. Said compresssion was still good and didn't see anything on the piston. Said it could be a gasket or maybe a reed. Does this sound right? Also anything else I should have him look for now? Is this a big job?

Blowing out a reed gasket is a common occurance. You will see all kinds of spray coming out of the front of the carb.

Update. Just got off the phine with the mechanic and he said it ended up being the intake gasket. Said new one should be in today and I should have it back tommorrow for the long weekend. If its all finally fixed will be the first time in over a month that I get o actually use the boat and fish. Can't wait. Hopefully nothing else goes wrong.

Re: 2000 225 Johnson Lost 800 RPMS (THE WITCHDOCTOR)

Well another update went to mechanic and picked up the boat and was told all set there was a small tear in the intake gasket. Wellon the wayhome decided to try the motor before heading to work. Launched the boat went to take off and as soon as I hit the throttle stalled right out. Started it up again and let it idle. Idled fine for 2 minutes so i decided to try again go to take off slow and motor stalled. Tried choking when it went to stall try to prime the bulb no difference. Called the mechanic no he wants me to bring it back and says he'll ahve to go water test it. Another weekend with no boat. Starting to get very aggreviated.

Re: 2000 225 Johnson Lost 800 RPMS (THE WITCHDOCTOR)

Ok now after a week of the mechanic having the boat and getting I have to water test the boat I got from the mechanic well I don;t ahve time to water test it and he leaves on Monday to go to some dealer meeting. He insists he doubled checked everything and it right and it runs fine on muffs. I ahve decided to just go get it and at least I can fish on the trolling motor. I going to also find another mehanic. Does anyone have any indeas from my previous post of what the problem could be?
