    Etec Spark Plugs

Are these plugs making the 300 hour Maintenance schdule? I'm guessing I'm around 100 hours on my Etec 225 HO, and my engine isn't starting or idleing quite as good as it did new. It's not a bad problem, but I have to hit the switch a couple of times to get it started and the engine will stumble a couple of times idleing out of the harbor. Just wondering how others are finding the 300 hour deal to be working out.

    Re: Etec Spark Plugs (Stump)

Sparkplug life may vary a bit depending on how you use the boat. The ICOMIA duty cycle is used by the outboard industry and the EPA for a standard for testing.

Some of the earlier E-TECs had short plug life that was traced to the motor running at a lower than normal temperature. That was easily fixed and was due to some out of spec pressure valve assemblies.

There is also a deflector pin change that can be retrofitted easily. See your dealer and if you have plug wear, he can upgrade your motor and get a new set of plugs at no charge.

Question: When I change my plugs on my E250DPLSO using plug QC10PEPB is there a torque? Any other special considerations? Just want to make sure I do it right.

this link shows you how to index the plugs and what the min. and max. torque is. It was written for the FICHT motors and this still applies to the E-TEC models too.

Boy, are you a poor judge of character !!!! Nope, not near the smartest, just one of the those high milage old farts who's been rode hard and put away wet too many times.

As the old saying goes, "If you're so damn smart, how come you ain't rich!"
