How fast has anyone gone with a coned 3.1L lower?? I've recently switched from a 2.6 225 to a 3.1 250 and the 3.1 won't topend like the 2.6 did..I went from 6% slip to 18% with the same props!! I'm wondering if there is a big issue with that lower....

The difference is the gear ratio and LU size. What prop,speed and rpms are you running? You have 1.75 gears in the 250 LU.

The lower is the same diameter (and I'm aware of the gear ratio)...it is much longer though.

I'm just very surprised that the 250 is slower than my old worn out 225...it makes no sense...unless there is an issue with the lower. The motor makes HUGE power and accelerates like mad (even with the 34) but just won't top end...

The motor is a 225 carb with an HPDI hood on it....It has been replaced with a 3.1 250 ox66....which clearly needs a real lower lol.
