    Yamaha max running height

Hey, I decided to measure my running height today. This is a 2005 300 HPDI VMax. With my hydraulic plate on 3 (my normal cruising height) the propshaft is 3.5" below the pad. With it on 6 (max), the shaft is 3/4" below the pad. The highest I could find anyone else running the Yamaha is 1 1/2" below. Is it possible I'm too high? What are other guys running?

My understanding would be as long as you're maintaining good water pressure you'd be fine as long as you were seeing an increase in performance.

On my fixed 12" jp i'm about 2 1/4 below and still getting a touch over 20lbs this time of year.

Prop height is all dependent on the boat not so much the motor.

Normally, I would agree, but the Yamaha water pickup isn't as low as the Merc Sportmaster that folks run 1 1/2" above the pad.

Depends on setback as well, But Spider knows what he's talking about. I have run my HPDI LU above the pad with plenty of water pressure.

Ok on a bullet the sportmaster will run 1 1/2 to 2" above the pad. Same sportmaster on a stroker will run 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 above the pad. Same lower unit different boat. Set back make a differents but not as much as boat.

So you really need to be asking this question to people that knows your boat not so much the motor.

More times then not it will be a handling/performance issure not a water pressure. Lots of the cookie cutter boats will handle/perform better at about 3 inches below the pad. 3" below is a good starting point and you may have to go up or down depending on the BOAT not the motor. All lower units will give good water pressure at that depth.

Re: Yamaha max running height (55excl)

It's a Checkmate Pulsare 2100BR with 12" of setback. Yea, not a bass boat...

At 3/4" below, I THINK I have good water pressure, but I haven't had much chance to check it good.

Also, I checked it with the pad and shaft both level to the ground. I've heard of some checking it while trimmed out.

I've had mine to 1/2" below pad when I ran my best WOT. That's running a Croxton 25TXP.
