Looking at a used engine with warranty left. Good friend of mine that runs a marine shop told me to transfer remaining warranty, it would have to be done by a Yamaha dealer and both buyer and seller would have to be present. True?

Not sure on the Yamaha but when I had Mercury motors all I had to do was give Mercury a call and they took care of every thing for me. Looks like it would be the same with Yamaha.
Seller doesn't have to be present. Just have the bill of sale and some ID

Not true on both of you have to be present, I just bought a used 2008 Ranger with a 300 HPDI on it and all I had do, was take it to a Yamaha Dealer and have them inspect the motor, you will pay the shop hourly rates for the inspection, show them the bill of sell and they will send in the paper work for the warranty transfer. Wait about a month after this happen and call Yamaha customer service and make sure the dealer sends in the paper work .
