    Yamaha alarm/buzzer when in neutral

I have a 250 Hpdi series 2. This past weekend the alarm started to go off when in neutral. It did not happen all the time but did happen maybe 5 times in 2 days of fishing. It was not a constant alarm but more like a beeping and once I put the motor in gear it stop going off. I read the manual and everything says if it goes off the RPMs should drop to 2000. When I got home I checked the oil and filters. The oil resevoir in the boat only had an inch in it so i'm thinking its just a warning that the oil was getting low. The oil level in the resevoir on the motor was fine. I did add a gallon but have not got a chance to take it out. Any ideas what this could be or was it a warning the resevoir was getting low. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

when mine did this it was the water sensor on the bottom of the fuel filter.all you need to do is take it off and clean it out ,then you should be good to go.it's the ethanol thats causing this.

I had an 05 225 hpdi that had the same problem. After the dealer changing 5 fuel filters and changing dealers Yamaha rep came out and changed the computer (ecu). Problem was solved. If u can't get it fixed call Yamaha cust. service @866-894-1626.

it has one filter on the port side of the motor that's clear and there is also a filter inside the VST tank. They also have 4 screen type filters at the top of the engine in the fuel rail or the "secret filters".

Had that on my f250. It was a lose water sensor on the fuel/water separator. Check the connection.

    water sensor

you either have water in the bowl setting it off or a bad sensor.

Re: Yamaha alarm/buzzer when in neutral (comanche1)

So i tried to get the bowl off and that sucker is on there tight. I was never able to get it off just because i didn't want to break it and not have a chance to replace before this weekend, however so i could get more leverage I took out the 2 bolts hold the top to the motor and noticed that the sensor was just loose sitting in the bottom of the bowl and not pushed all the way in. When i took the sensor out there was a small crack in it about half way up.

back to the bowl: Is there a special tool to get the bowl off. tried channel locks but that didn't work along with brute strength. Again thanks for the help.

Put the whole filter in your freeze for about 30 minutes and then take it apart.

Re: Yamaha alarm/buzzer when in neutral (rangerguy)

I thought the whole freezer ideas was a joke till i read it other places so I tried it out and it worked like a charm to get the bowl off and clean it out. So hopefully no alarms will be going off this week. Thanks everyone for the help.
