I am looking at a 2001 Triton 18' bass boat to buy. I think it is the 186 model. The guy who owns the local Triton dealership is a good friend of mine and this boat belongs to one of his customers. They have always serviced the boat and it has been kept in a garage and used very little. The boat is immaculate but I have some concerns about the Johnson motor. It is a 150 hp 6 cylinder and it is not the FICHT motor which he warned me to stay away from and when I researched it on the web I found that to be true. The model number on this motor is J150PLSIF. It has been checked out and it runs great and has excellent compression across all cylinders. However, I am a little concerned about the motor since it was made during the time period when OMC was going bankrupt and Bombadier was taking over. Are there any reasons for concern that I should know about before buying this boat? This is the first boat I have ever bought and don't want to buy something that will give me trouble. Thanks for any input!
