Which Racor Element for E-TEC 200?

While I'm waiting for my 60 degree 200 to come in, I'm doing as much rigging as possible. I noticed the part number on the Racor element I removed specifies Mercury, and I want to know if a different element should be used for the E-TEC. My old Merc was carburated, and I suspect a finer element may be required for the E-TEC.

Racor makes 3 styles of filters to fit the common brands of filter brackets on the market. The most common size is called the Merc filter and it is the same as the Yamaha filter bracket. The former OMC had their design that used a larger thread. The 3rd design is Racor's own with only fits their filter, no others.

On your "Merc Style" setup, you have the best of both worlds. You can use the expensive Racor filter and bowl assembly, or you can use the easily available $7 spin on filters from Merc, Yammy, Sierra, Tempo, etc if you wish.

A few years ago, Trailer Boats had a test of the different makes of filters and explained the differences between the Racor "heads".

The Racor filter elements are all the same inside, no matter what the type of bracket that they fit. Whatever filter assembly you use, it will work fine on your E-TEC.

Here are the common Racor part numbers:

S3227 regular filter element for Racor brackets

S3228UL for inboard and I/O's - fire resistant, CG approved

S3213 Racor for Mercury spin-on brackets

S3214 Racor for OMC spin-on brackets

B32014 kit, Plastic bowl and filter for OMC filter bracket

B32013 kit, Plastic bowl and filter for Mercury filter bracket

Thanks for the detailed info. I have the plastic bowl, and since the boat is wet slipped and is often run with marina gas, I am always concerned about water in the gas. I'll just replace my current Racor brand element in kind and sleep a bit better at night.
