Yamaha vmax 250 hpdi still studdering after service from dealer.

My motor has been studdering through out all rpm ranges. Loss of power on top end. Will only turn 5700 rpms instead of the normal 5900. Brought to dealer to get fixed. $750 for them to Clean fuel system...change all filters, high pressure pump screens, and labor cost. I get the boat in the water and it is doing the same thing. Studdering/ loss of rpms. Around 3 months ago I payed this dealer $550 to have these same filters changed as preventive maintaince. I have since put around 20 hrs on the motor. They told me u can bring it back to look further into it. My question is... Did they do right by channging all these filters again? I'm sick to my stomache having just spent $750 and the motor is still running bad. Should they reimburse me for some of this?

Just wanted to add that there is only 16 hours on this powerhead that was replaced at the end of march. Whatever the problem is may be the cause of the failure of the previous powerhead. I'm not sure if they ever figured out the cause. Just replaced 1 injector and installed new powerhead. My motor is now out of warranty as of April 17th. So everything is out of my pocket now.

I would take it back...it's obviously still not fixed. Find out if they did a fuel pressure test on it. They need to take it to the lake and hook a computer to it and check for codes and monitor the fuel pressure throughout the RPM range.

It also makes me wonder why they just slap a power head on a motor and never diagnose what caused the original one to blow.

They failed to diagnose the problem correctly, and YOU paid for it. I would have a talk with the owner of the place to see what he is going to do about that before you spend any more money with them. If the answer is nothing, you need to find another repair facility. Replacing 3 month old filters, unless they found a trashy fuel system, doesn't make sense. I would also call Yamaha customer service and explain the whole thing and make clear your feelings that the cause of the previous powerhead failure may not have been discovered and may be leading to your current problems, and ask for them to help.

^^^What he said.....Sometimes ya just gotta stand up and fuss....The owner and mechanic has some explaining to do.....Otherwise they'll just keep changing parts at your expense....GL

I was losing RPMs and WOT, dealer replaced filters, still problem, it turned out to be my primer ball. Check that yourself.
