    De carbon my motor??

I am thinking my motor needs to be de-carboned. The motor was not ran for atleast a year before I bought it and put it on my boat. I did replace the plugs and put a small camera inside each hole and notices some carbon on the piston tops and some on the plugs. I just looked at the new plugs after a few runs and they have a little build up so I am thinking I should run a cleaner threw it.

What is the prefered method to use (Ring free)or other brand?

The engine has a little over 180 hours.

    Thanks Randy

Me too. I can let you know my results after running ringfree in the motor. The parts guy at the boat dealer said it would not hurt to shock the motor than put in the normal amount. The stuff is not Cheep. So going to shock 5 gal. Than put remainder in my other tank at recommended amount which should finish of the bottle

I use ring free and also the gas treatment stuff as well. Still looks like I need to decarb..but then again, I have only been though a couple of tanks of fuel since I bought the boat though.

It wouldn't hurt a thing to do a shock treatment, then just run at the recomended amount on the bottle for normal treatment.I am a firm believer that it works, just find an old oil burning car or truck and do a shock treatment to it,then take it out and nail the gas and watch out the rearview mirrow. You ain't ever seen a diesel put that much crap out of a tailpipe! I run some at every fill up,and highly recomend it.I also think the Yamalube causes a bunch of the build-up with the molybdenum that it contains that none of the other oils have.It is a hi pressure lube that does not burn easily, but is very benificial to reduce wear.

Re: De carbon my motor?? (xpress spanky)

You can de-carbon any two stroke by warming the engine on a hose, then using any brand spray de-carboning agent, spray it right thru the air intakes with the engine still idling on a hose, spending a few seconds on each intake and rotating around to all intakes until the can is empty. Pull the plugs, look inside the cylinders with a light and see if the piston heads are clean. If not, run a second can thru it. The engine must be firing on all cylinders, so in the case of engines that idle on 4, put it in gear. Do NOT rev up the engine while in gear. Change the plugs when finished.

I use the 16oz seafoam to 3/4 gal gas method and have really good results. Mix the two in a 1 gallon gas jug and hook up a seperate fuel line to the engine filter inlet (remove existing fuel line and cap off). Run engine for 3 cycles of 15 min on and 15 min off (soak time) or intill mix is gone. You will have all kinds of nasty come out the exhaust, smokes a lot too during process. It cleans the carbon out a lot better than the canned engine
    tuners.

Reconnect your main fuel line, and take it to the water and run her wide open for at least 5 minutes to clean and blow out all the remaining deposits, then change your plugs. You should see a night and day difference. If you need, do a google search for the full details of this decarb method.

Re: De carbon my motor?? (red314)

    red314,
There is a guy that goes by the name of Dunk on a site called the hull truth. He has a seafoam decarb method that all of the guys on the site swear by and I mean a lot of boat owners. He has been using the method for a long time and the other guys on the site swear by it. Hope this helps.
When you are really very good at something you do, ever noticed how people seem to always find a way to come around to see how you do it?
