NEED HELP NOW: Thermostat gasket DRY or sealant?

1989 90hp yamaha 2-stroke. Replacing thermostat, control valve and gasket. My book does not indicate whether to use or not to use. Any expert advice here......I know you all are good!

    Thanks

Received an email indicating I should use Permatex #27. Not sure who sent it. Any thoughts?

When i replaced my thermostats on my 05 225 hpdi i just put the new ones in put on a new gasket and bolted it down. It was a simple install and all i needed to do was scrape away a little of the old gasket but the came off real easy and didn't seem to have any sealants added.

I just replaced mine and did not use any sealant. I removed the old gaskets (scraped away anything that stuck) and placed the new gasket on and bolted it up. I have not seen any problems.

    thanks all.

I just finished and left it dry. I will test it as well. I also had the opportunity to change the water pump and was lucky........all bolts came out smooth and the reassembly was easy as well. Not bad for an 89. I will count my blessings.

If anything rub some grease on gasket. Key point; make it easier to service in the future.
