    2001 Yamaha 150 HPDI

    Buying a boat with a 150 HPDI motor and after getting on plane the engine will stall. Starts back up and runs a distance and repeats this. It is running out of fuel. How many electric fuel pumps does this motor have? Both diaphram pick up pumps have been replaced.
    Any Yamaha techs on here that can help??? All fuel filters have been replaced, I have over 50 psi fuel pressure coming out of the vst.
    I removed the o2 sensor this morning and it looks pretty nasty???

    Try priming the bulb when you think its running out of gas? This will make sure the vst is getting fuel because it shoots fuel right thru the lift pumps. Along with cleaning 02 sensor, you need to clean the draw tube and install new gasket. The service manual explains how to clean and check the 02 sensor. How are the other 5 plugs? A lean reading on this cyl (o2 port) will cause the ecm to tell the others to run rich and vice versa. One more area is the screen filter attached to the electric pump in the vst. even though you have the req. press. that means its not totally clogged. Hope this helps you.

    Fuel pressure was good when it stalls. I did this, I unplugged the o2 sensor for a minute and when I plugged it back up it seemed to run good for a short period of time. I am going to try and clean the sensor and tube and see what happens.

    i sent you a IM? did you replace the metal final strainer filter? o2 sensor on a hpdi only affects running up to 1500rpms

    Go into your profile and the IM is there in Instant Message. Go into User Options and there is a place to allow receive of Instant Messages. Best to take pop up blocker off and just let them pop up when someone IM you. This site will have no other pop ups like other site have.

    I found that the fuel pressure regulator was stuck closed and the dealer said that the medium pressure was high. Also said it had a code 16 clogged fuel injector or filter. Will the fuel pressure regulator cause a issue like this?

    Okay, here is the deal. I tested it today on the water and my med. pressure ramains at 50 psi no problem. I had a volt meter on the HP sensor wires and was told by a Yamaha tech that it should remain between 2.8 and 3.2 volts. It is about 3.0 volts when idling or revving up in neutral, but when I put it in gear and try to take off the voltage starts dropping rapidly. So I am assuming the high pressure pump is bad. Are these pumps repairable or do you just have to buy a new one? As much as one cost new you would think that they would last a lot longer.
