High Idle

I have a 225 Yamaha Vmax HDPI is idling around 1400-1500 rpm. This seems to be high to me.

Some background on the engine:
Engine was rebuilt with Yamaha powerhead and piston prior to me getting the boat. I went through the break in period and did everything I was supposed to. Does the engine require a recheck after the breakin period has been completed? The dealer said it should be good to go but I am not taking any chances.

Also, the engine smokes a little now where it really didnt during the first times out on the water.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

3000 rpm is way too high!! Should be around 750. Something is out of adjustment or hanging up. You will be ripping gears in the lower unit if you use it!

Still way to much. 750 is the correct idle rpm. You will still harm the lower unit gears at 1400 to 1500 rpms at idle. There is a Idle adjustment if you have a service manual.

I contacted the marina that I purchased the boat from. I am dropping it off and letting them fix the issue.
