I actually just spoke to a Yamaha representative over the phone for this exact issue. I have a 2006 HPDI 300 and he told me that 3 more years of Y.E.S (yamaha extended service) would cost me $2970 if I were to buy it through him (Yamaha), he then told me that if you were to buy it through a yamaha dealer that the dealer could probably get it for you at a better price. Is it worth it? I believe it is, it will give you peace of mind and so I'll be purchasing it soon through a dealer. Also remember you got 2 years factory warranty that came with the motor, so if your motor is a 2009 and I'm assuming you bought it last year, you have until 2011 of the month you purchased it in to get the extended warranty, any day after and you can no longer purchase it.
As for your second question, when I purchased the motor brand new in October of last year, the promotion Yamaha was offering was $3500 for goods and services OR 3 more years of warranty. So what I'm saying is that you probably should have had the option of either more years warranty or the $2000.
Yeah, I am kind of leaning towards the warranty. The peace of mind is worth it. I hope to be picking up the boat this weekend. New 2009 leftover. I can't wait.
