I'm having a problem with my software that I recently purchased. It keeps giving me the can't communicate with the ecm screen then will come up with the desired screen, sometimes when I wiggle, shake,massage the cable I will get the desired screen, other times, for example I can go to the static injector firing screen and push #1 and the no communication screen will come up but then I can hear the injector firing then the desired screen will come back. Is the nature of the beast or do I need to look at replacing the cable. Is this a special inductive cable or can I just rewire new wire between the ends? Thanks for all you guys do! The software is the 1.42 version, running on windows 2000 Pro.

If your cable is old, it may be a cold solder joint. The later ones were hot soldered and gave less problems. The connections are greatly improved.

I bought it recently, but it states that it was for 02 and older models, However I got it on good info from two great techs and it works just seems intermittant or mabye even timed? Thanks for the quick response!!

Mike, I made my own. I have access to the small terminal connectors and wire, so I just threw one together with the 9-pin D-sub connector that mates to the laptop. Worked every time! Imagine that, I didn't screw that up!

Hey thanks Miguel, Friend of mine thought it might be some kind of inductive?? cable or something to stop interference. so I wanted to be sure before I cut anything. I take it's not the nature of the beast. Thanks again, this is why I live here!!!! If ya ain't too busy post one!!!

Mike,

remove the triangular connector pins and check the crimp and soldering. Just pull out the orange center spacer and use a small screwdriver or pick to carefully pry back the latch clip on each pin, then pull the wire to remove the pin assembly.

On the 9 pin connector, remove the screws and check the soldering. Use an ohmmeter to check each pin for continuity while wiggling the cable.

If you save the old backissues of Bass and Walleye Boats, there was an article on the FICHT servicing and it had how to make a cable up, with the pin diagrams. It was back several years or so.

Thanks SH. We went back out there and it was better but seems #1 on the main menu would always give us the bad screen, upon wiggeling ,shakin, etc we seem to have the most results on the plug on the engine. Will give that some looking at according to your instrutions and get back with you. Thanks again for all ya'lls help!
